Fear is pain arising from the anticipation of evil.
Aristotle
The simplicity of message here is what I like. It logically makes sense. When we think it through logically.
As humans we have the ability to think not just of the here and now. We can and do think of what is to come. The future.
In thinking of the future we can predict or see the good that is to come. At the same time we can also see evil as it rears its ugly head on the horizon. We can know that evil is coming.
The natural physical reaction to this is to experience a form of pain. As the body tries to tell us to flee and avoid the forthcoming evil.
Hence, we experience fear in reaction to the pain.
Most important is the choice we make in dealing with this fear.
Do we rationally seek to engage. Or do we irrationally run from it losing the opportunity to grow and flourish.
That choice depends on many things. Many factors to consider.
How do you deal with fear? Does it consume you or do you look to grow from it?
